FamilyMart Offers a Taste of All 47 Prefectures

For its 45th anniversary, the convenience-store chain is turning socks and stickers into a small tour of Japan — with a different design sold in every prefecture.

FamilyMart’s latest anniversary collection is built around a simple idea: give each of Japan’s 47 prefectures something of its own.

Created as a thank-you to people across Japan for supporting the chain over the past 45 years, the collection includes two sets of 47 different designs, one for each prefecture: striped socks from its Convenience Wear label and a series of stickers. Starting Sept. 4, 2026, each design will be sold only at FamilyMart stores within the prefecture it represents.

Together, they offer a small, collectible taste of regional Japan — not through food, this time, but through things you can wear or stick on a suitcase.

The socks take their cues from flowers associated with each prefecture, turning one of FamilyMart’s most recognizable Convenience Wear products into 47 local variations. A pair costs ¥600 including tax, and each can only be bought in its corresponding prefecture.

The stickers go further into local iconography. Each reworks the sun-and-star symbol used by FamilyMart in its early years, dressing it up around a local specialty, festival or other prefectural motif. Priced at ¥300, they are meant to work equally well as a hometown collectible, a reminder of a trip or a small souvenir to bring back from one.

That prefecture-by-prefecture approach gives the collection a distinctly Japanese sense of place. Travelers crossing the country will encounter a different version at FamilyMart depending on where they stop, turning an everyday visit to the konbini into something closer to collecting regional souvenirs.

The idea also extends beyond Japan. FamilyMart is preparing separate local sock designs for Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei, each inspired by a flower associated with the city. Convenience Wear has been available in overseas FamilyMart markets since 2024, and the new designs bring the anniversary’s local theme to three of them.

FamilyMart was founded in September 1981 and marked its 45th anniversary on Sept. 1, 2026. For the occasion, rather than making one commemorative item for the whole country, it has made 47 — offering a different little taste of Japan depending on which prefecture you happen to be in.
